چکیده

Desulfovibrio vulgaris Hildenborough is a Gram-negative sulfate-reducing bacterium (SRB). It has ability to adhere to the surfaces forming biofilm. It can seriously impact environmental sites including metal pipelines, oil repositories and radionuclide waste sites. Due to increased antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens, treatment for infectious diseases is getting ineffective. There should be alternative strategies to combat bacterial pathogens without disrupting the normal flora of host and bacterial growth patterns. One such effective techinique, is to interfere the type three secretion system (T3SS), observed in Gram -negative pathogens. Bacteria having T3SS use a novel virulence strategy making by injecting effector proteins directly into the host cytoplasm. Without T3SSs, many pathogenic bacteria are no longer infectious, hence correlating it with progression of infection and outcome, both in animals and humans. Hence, T3SS is an effective target for magic drugs. Multidisciplinary research by scientists has suggested various T3SS inhibitors, such as vaccines, antibiotics and salicylidene acylhydrazides. This review enlightens the importance of D. vulgaris biofilm formation and T3SS mediated inhibition making it an effective target for therapeutic and prophylactic values.

Unintended Laboratory-Driven Evolution Reveals Genetic Requirements for Biofilm Formation by Desulfovibrio vulgaris Hildenborough

Biofilms of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) are of particular interest as members of this group are culprits in corrosion of industrial metal and concrete pipelines as well as being key players in subsurface metal cycling. Yet the mechanism of biofilm formation by these bacteria has not been determined. Here we show that two supposedly identical wild-type cultures of the SRB Desulfovibrio vulga...

Biofilm growth mode promotes maximum carrying capacity and community stability during product inhibition syntrophy

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) can interact syntrophically with other community members in the absence of sulfate, and interactions with hydrogen-consuming methanogens are beneficial when these archaea consume potentially inhibitory H2 produced by the SRB. A dual continuous culture approach was used to characterize population structure within a syntrophic biofilm formed by the SRB Desulfovibri...

Comparison of Transcriptional Heterogeneity of Eight Genes between Batch Desulfovibrio vulgaris Biofilm and Planktonic Culture at a Single-Cell Level

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) biofilm formed on metal surfaces can change the physicochemical properties of metals and cause metal corrosion. To enhance understanding of differential gene expression in Desulfovibrio vulgaris under planktonic and biofilm growth modes, a single-cell based RT-qPCR approach was applied to determine gene expression levels of 8 selected target genes in four sets of...
